The Brinyte PT16A delivers 3000 lumens peak output (Luminus SFT70 LED, 6500K) with 52,500 candela peak intensity for a 458-meter beam distance. Its removable 21700 5000mAh battery with built-in USB-C charging and IP68 waterproof rating (2m submersion) position it as a professional-grade tactical flashlight. Independent testing by 1Lumen confirms "the machining, anodising, threads, switch boots, switch feel and construction all feel top notch."
Introduction
Into action with 3,000 lumens. My first tactical flashlight from Brinyte – a small premiere. How did I find out about Brinyte? Probably like most of you: through their Instagram advertising! I hadn't even heard of this manufacturer for a long time, yet I was immediately hooked when I saw the PT16A – a tactical flashlight with 3,000 lumens, double rear switch, and 21700 battery. So what can the Brinyte PT16A do? In my eyes: more than many other tactical flashlights...
Area of Application
The PT16A is designed as a tactical flashlight, suitable for police and security forces. However, it might be a bit too large for daily police duty. Security personnel will benefit from its 3,000 lumens – especially the strobe mode makes it a very effective self-defense tool.
It's IP68 rated – completely dustproof and waterproof up to 2 meters. Drop protection is only 1 meter, which is typical for most flashlights. That's enough to break a window, but concrete drops from shoulder height could be problematic.
Crucially, the PT16A provides instant access to turbo and strobe modes – a must for self-defense. Thanks to the excellent dual rear button design, it can be operated almost blind. Only the Wurkkos TD03 is more foolproof in my experience.
Key Features & Special Modes
Four brightness levels: 5, 120, 900, and 3,000 lumens. The levels are well spaced. The moonlight mode (5 lumens) is important even for tactical lights. And 3,000 lumens really pack a punch – for self-defense or just bringing light into darkness.
The tactical strobe fires at full 3,000 lumens – excellent. There's also a 300-lumen SOS mode, which many other tactical flashlights lack. Great that Brinyte included it.
What I can't understand: why no beacon mode? That would have been the icing on the cake. Unfortunately, this feature is missing – what a shame.
Light Quality & Optics
At 6,500K, the PT16A produces a fairly cold white light – still acceptable, far from blue-white. The defined hotspot is surrounded by a strong halo, giving excellent range with good close-range illumination. Don't expect high CRI from a tactical flashlight – that's not the purpose here.
Appearance‑wise, I really like the PT16A. It looks "boxier", more angular, and less streamlined than many competitors – which makes it look very robust. The entire lamp has a uniform color and finish, with only the silver-rimmed power button with green indicator LED as an accent.
Build Quality & Usability
First-class. Threads are cleanly cut, no flaws on the body or reflector. The belt clip is sturdy – almost too tight (which is good). The USB port cover sits flush with the body – it's nearly impossible to open accidentally.
The dual rear buttons plus side button allow operation in both hammer and ice pick grips. With many lights, the rear button must be pressed first to activate – not here. It's very well thought out.
The only minor complaint: the aluminum combat ring is less comfortable than rubber rings on some competitors. But that's a very small point.
Battery, Runtime & Step-Down Strategy
The PT16A has a removable 21700 battery – great! For emergency use, removable batteries are a must. No need to abort a mission because the battery died – swap it and continue. Standard 21700 cells work, no proprietary batteries required.
USB-C charging is built-in, and the rubber cap is flush – accidental opening is very unlikely.
The PT16A did something few flashlights do – it surprised me. Most lamps meet or slightly exceed specs. The PT16A's claimed 135 minutes on turbo? Not even close – it ran over 10 hours! The 900-lumen mode lasted 14 hours. The step-down strategy is smart: the PT16A drops from turbo to ~600 lumens after one minute, then dims further to maximize runtime. In tactical situations, high output is only needed briefly. For longer trips, automatic step-down saves power – and you can always boost brightness again if needed. I think it's cool!
Included accessories: USB-C cable, spare O-rings, lanyard, and the 5000mAh battery. Missing: a holster or gear clip – especially for tactical use, different attachment options would be welcome.
Brinyte offers a 2‑year warranty, extendable to 5 years by registering the lamp.
Final Verdict
Man, I was surprised by this lamp! It's relatively rare that a tactical flashlight leaves such a positive impression – it just seems very well thought out. The PT16A is definitely not lightweight (21700 battery), so it's out of the EDC range and should be carried in a holster. It produces great light with long range, is super easy to use, and offers plenty of functions for tech lovers.
In short: The Brinyte PT16A is a great tactical flashlight that, thanks to its functional layout and complete accessories, is also an excellent outdoor lamp – for both beginners and advanced users. If I didn't already have it – I would definitely buy it!
❓ Frequently Asked Questions — Brinyte PT16A
How long does the Brinyte PT16A battery last on a full charge?
The PT16A uses a 5000mAh 21700 battery. On turbo (3000 lumens), the step-down strategy extends runtime significantly — real-world testing showed over 10 hours with automatic dimming. On high (900 lumens), runtime reached 14 hours. On low (5 lumens), expect up to 300 hours. The removable battery means you can swap in a spare for unlimited runtime.
Is the Brinyte PT16A good for self-defense?
Yes. The dual tail switch provides instant access to 3000-lumen strobe without cycling through modes — a critical feature for self-defense. The strike bezel with tungsten steel tips adds a glass-breaking capability. Independent reviewer Stephan Röhl notes: "The tactical strobe fires at the full 3,000 lumens – excellent."
Can I use standard 21700 batteries in the PT16A?
Yes. The PT16A accepts standard unprotected flat-top 21700 cells. It comes with a 5000mAh USB-C rechargeable battery, but any quality 21700 cell will work. This is a significant advantage over lights with proprietary batteries.
What is the beam distance of the PT16A?
The PT16A delivers 52,500 candela peak intensity with a 458-meter beam distance (ANSI FL1 standard). The Luminus SFT70 LED in a smooth reflector produces a defined hotspot with strong halo, giving excellent throw with usable spill for close-range awareness.
